Soda worked with Croydon Council’s Public Health team on a strengths-based project to identify strategies for community resilience development in Croydon - focused on those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
The challenge
Understand how Croydon Council and other local partners could actively foster community-led approaches to growing community resilience in the borough - particularly for those groups most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our impact
Our approach
By proactively engaging residents in a programme of strengths-based community development work, we were able to test approaches and showcase winning formulas for bottom-up resilience building, enabling the council to take forwards a proven framework for progressing this agenda with a wider range of partners.
Creative engagement: We volunteered at a resident-led food bank, set up a conversation stall in the JobCentre and cooked lunch for a local community group. Embedding ourselves in the community like this allowed us to build the trust and relationships necessary to give the residents we were working with the space and confidence to share their ideas and participate in taking them forwards into concrete action.
